I stumbled across a copy of Building A Championship Football Team – which is in the public domain?
The site where I found the HTML tends to be very reliable on only posting material that they have verified as in the public domain.
Back in 1960 authors were required to include a valid copyright notice and then a renewal at some point – so I have no idea why the 1960 book is in the public domain …
BUT this is the sort of book that was PROBABLY written as a “recruiting tool” of sorts for Alabama football and The University of Alabama.
i.e. Paul Bryant LITERALLY wrote the book on championship football …
Paul Bryant had built successful programs at Kentucky, Texas A&M, and then at Alabama. He would win his first National Championship a year after the book was published …
Gene Stallings gets mentioned in the “Acknowledgment” as being vital to the book’s creation. Mr Stallings would have his own “college hall of fame” level coaching career – winning another National Championship for Alabama in 1992 …
Is the book still relevant almost 70 years later?
Well, rule changes have made a lot of the individual technique coaching points “wrong” – as in “will be a penalty.”
BUT the “program building” and overall “strategy” suggestions are still valid …
… and it is freely available – right click on the link above and “save link as”
